Efficient heating

Heating, and how you can use it efficiently

‘You can save on heating costs through conscious action!’

Room temperature – set correctly!
Don’t set your heating any higher than is comfortable.

Heat your rooms separately!
Experts recommend the following temperatures:
15° Celsius = hallway
18° Celsius = kitchen and bedrooms
20° Celsius = children’s rooms and dining room
21° Celsius = living room
23° Celsius = bathroom

Don’t let the radiators take on air!
Listen out for gurgling sounds in your radiators. Let the air out through the release valve until hot water seeps out.

Don’t cover up the radiator!
The warm air from the radiators must be able to circulate freely around the room.

Avoid drops in temperature from one room to the next!
Keep the doors to the rooms in your home closed as much as possible.

How the rooms in your home are heated:

  • Through steady circulation the warm air rises above the radiators, flows into the room and circulates around the room.
  • Through radiated heat, which ‘rushes’ directly and evenly from the radiator to all sides of the room. These rays heat up the interior surfaces of walls, furniture and other fittings; and the heat is gradually radiated around the room.

Important: Do not obstruct the radiators. There should be no ‘barriers’ blocking the circulation and radiation of heat!

Heat evenly – while saving at the same time

Some tenants, including many who go out to work, simply switch off their heating during the day to save on heating costs. That’s understandable, but incorrect in terms of heating technology.

Turn your temperature down to around 15-16° Celsius during the day. In the evenings turn your heating up for a while, and in no time your rooms will be back to a cosy and comfortable temperature.

Turning the temperatures down to 16° Celsius during the night will save you about 6% on energy costs – a significant saving on your overall heating costs.
